This area of scientific activity includes:
- Development of an integrated design, construction and three-dimensional parametric modeling methodology using modern CAD / CAM / CAE systems for highly efficient manned and unmanned aircraft.
- Improving the techniques and methods of integrated design, construction and three-dimensional parametric modeling of high-performance aircraft
- Development and improvement of constructive-technological methods to ensure an aircraft assigned lifetime.
- Development of advanced design samples of high-performance aircraft.
Scientific, research and production center CAD/CAM/CAE of the National Aerospace University “KhAI” was founded in 1993.
Scientific school of computer-aided design and simulation of aircraft has been created under the leadership of the training center’s head Doctor of Science professor O.G. Grebenikov. Every year more than 100 students, young specialists, scientists, members of KhAI, specialist of Ukrainian industrial companies as well as other foreign countries obtain training and scientific practical experience at the center.
The specialists of the center are constantly in contact with their colleagues abroad from: USA, Germany, Czech Republic, Canada, Japan, Iran, Russia, India, China, and Mexico.
The center is provided with up-to-date computer-aided systems CAD/CAM/CAE (Siemens NX, CATIA, ANSYS, NASTRAN, КОМПАС etc.) to ensure scientific and research works.
Methodological procedure development of computer-aided design, engineering, and parametric modelling, engineering analysis, and preproduction of aircraft and helicopters are the main directions of scientific and research investigations.
Philosophy, principles and methods of computer-aided design and simulation of high-life aviation engineering items have been developed. Solution of this problem is one of the means to provide cutting of expenditures and terms and development of new transport category aircraft and upgrading marketability of aviation projects being the basis of production, science and training process quality and efficiency.
The specialist of the center have developed the methods of computer-aided design and obtaining specified service life of airframe structural members in the areas of riveted and bolted joints followed by application of up-to-date computer-aided systems. Implementation of computer-aided design for assembled aircraft structures with an account made for the fatigue life makes it possible to increase significantly endurance of aircraft structural components subjected to operational loads.
Developed analysis methods of local strain-and-stress state characteristics of aircraft structural strong members in the area of holes for fuel flow and within the areas of bolted and riveted joints including simulation of production processes of this components machining enable at the design stage to select structural and technical parameters of these components machining to achieve specified lifetime characteristics without increase of structure mass and to provide possibility of fatigue resistance characteristics prediction.
Proposed methods of computer-aided design and structural-production concepts in solving the problem have been implemented in theory and practice of aircraft assembled structure development using computer-aided systems CAD/CAM/CAE.
